The 93rd Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are currently on-going and Youn Yuh Jung was just announced as the winner for Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, beating out Maria Bakalova from Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Glenn Close from Hillbilly Elegy, Olivia Colman from The Father, and Amanda Seyfried from Mank.

Youn Yuh Jung picks up her 38th award for her role as Soon Ja in Minari, however the Oscar is the most prestigious award she has received out of all of them. She has also become just the second Asian winner ever for the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role award.

Youn Yuh Jung’s victory also marks the second consecutive year that a Korean has won an award at the Oscars. Last year, director Bong Joon Ho won four awards for his work on Parasite. Both Youn Yuh Jung and Han Ye Ri flew from South Korea to Los Angeles to attend the event in person.
