Sri Lankan Government Officially Adds Korean As A College Entrance Exam Subject
The Korean language will soon be added as a test subject in Sri Lankan college entrance exams.
Recently, the Sri Lankan government added Korean to the list of foreign languages taught in the Advanced Level curriculum of schools. By 2023, students will be able to take the subject in their Advanced Level exam, which is an entrance requirement for universities.
In the second half of this year, students in grades 12 and 13 will have the option of choosing Korean as their foreign language course.
The Korean embassy noted that Sri Lanka is one of the few countries to include Korean in their college entrance exams.
According to ambassador Jeong Woon Jin, the decision was made in order to expand Korean education in schools and develop the relations between Sri Lanka and Korea.
We believe (the adoption of Korean in Sri Lanka’s college entrance exam) will greatly contribute to the development of the two countries’ relations.

Considering the growing interest in K-Pop and K-Dramas in Sri Lanka, the news may come as a welcome surprise to some students.
