Billboard Picked BTS As An Early Front-Runner For The 2022 Grammy Awards And Here’s Why

On July 16, Billboard released a list of artists that they believe will receive a nomination for (and possibly end up winning!) one of the ‘Big Four’ trophies at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

Joining huge names in the industry such as Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Rodrigo, BTS was predicted to be a likely candidate.

While casual listeners and music critics alike were surprised that “Dynamite” was not given a nomination last year, a rule change made by The Recording Academy in April may increase their chances for 2022.

Music journalist Paul Grein highlighted the fact that the Academy will be disbanding its nominations review committees, meaning that “for the first time in 27 years, voting members will have the final say on the nominations in the Big Four categories.”

BTS were actually offered positions as voting members back in 2019, with Bang Si Hyuk receiving an invitation to join the Academy as a professional member. While there are still thousands of other artists and industry professionals that also serve as voting members, the mysterious elite who were known to have an overwhelming influence on the nominations will not be a road block anymore.

Keeping that in mind, Grein affirmed that “Butter” could be vying for “Record of the Year” this time around, seeing as it’s an even longer-running hit than “Dynamite” was!
