HYBE, SM, JYP & YG Reveal Their 2nd Quarter Profits For 2021

HYBE and K-Pop’s “Big 3″—SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and YG Entertainment—have finally revealed their revenue and profits from 2021’s second quarter (Q2). Which agency came out on top with the most money between April and June this year? Read on to find out.

First, a quick breakdown of the three key K-Pop company finance terms. Revenue is a company’s total income from all sales before any costs are deducted. Operating profit is how much money the company has left after paying most of its expenses, not including savings or investment profits. Finally, net income (arguably the most important figure) shows the true profitability of a company—their final earnings from all cash flows minus all costs and expenses.

Now, let’s get into the numbers.

4. YG Entertainment

YG Entertainment is the only company from the “Big 4” that failed to turn a profit in 2021’s second quarter, ending June with a loss of ₩1.50 billion KRW (about $1.29 million USD). The company’s operating profit was ₩10.4 billion KRW (about $8.92 million USD) after generating ₩83.6 billion KRW (about $71.7 million USD) in sales.
