Having debuted in 2016, BLACKPINK has released several iconic songs with equally iconic music videos. The group references their past work in the MV for their new song “Shut Down.”

1. “Playing with Fire”

The opening shot of “Shut Down” mirrors the iconic shot from “Playing with Fire.”

Rather than flames, water surrounds the pier.

Likewise, the shot of Jennie looking at a lit match is nearly identical to a shot from “Playing with Fire.”

2. “BOOMBAYAH”

The scene of Lisa on a truck filled with speakers and bags is similar to the one from the ever-so-iconic “BOOMBAYAH!”

3. “WHISTLE”

In “Shut Down,” Rosé sits on a pink sphere. Similarly, in the “WHISTLE” MV, Rosé rests on Earth.

Additionally, the scene of Lisa driving the members is very similar to the one in “WHISTLE.”

4. “DDU-DU DDU-DU”

Of all BLACKPINK’s music videos, “DDU-DU DDU-DU” is the most referenced in “Shut Down.”

There’s a shot of Jisoo in a power stance holding an umbrella in both music videos.

Likewise, a shot of Jisoo is reminiscent of the paparazzi scene in the “DDU-DU DDU-DU” MV. Jisoo is in a pink wig in front of a picture of herself with black hair. In “Shut Down,” it’s the reverse. And rather than others taking her picture like in “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” she takes her own!

It’s also hard to miss the reference to Jennie on a disco ball military tank!

Rosé swings from a chandelier in both “Shut Down” and “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” but the chandeliers are two very different aesthetics!
