Where Are They Now? The K-Pop Group That Toured With Lady Gaga
These days, interactions between K-Pop idols and Western musicians have become common. BTS surprised fans when Megan The Stallion hopped on one of the “Butter” remixes (and joined them on stage to perform)…
…while TXT‘s recent chart-topping collaboration with the Jonas Brothers has been a fun moment for fans of both groups.
In the past, working with artists was rarer, especially for idols outside big entertainment agencies. However, a group from a smaller agency joined Lady Gaga as the opening act for one of her tours!
In 2012, Chrome Entertainment‘s CEO formed a group called Hurricane Pop, which consisted of five women who were not taller than 165 cm and did not have a “sexy image.” After their first live performance and a line-up change, the group were renamed to Crayon Pop.
The group were not initially successful, and to stand out from other girl groups, the Crayon Pop began wearing tracksuits for their performances. They gained a loyal fanbase through street performances and were successful in Japan.
In June 2013, the group released “Bar Bar Bar,” one of their most popular tracks that featured the group wearing their ironic scooter helmets, skirts, and polo shirts. The group quickly went viral and attracted worldwide attention, earning them their first music show win and a contract with Sony Music Entertainment.
It wouldn’t be until the following year that the group served as the opening act for Lady Gaga’s ArtRave: The Artpop Ball for twelve concerts across the US.
As it turned out, Lady Gaga wanted the group to perform for the 29-date North American tour, but they had to focus on recording their album!
The group continued promoting and releasing music until 2017 when the group would go on indefinite hiatus, as the members pursued individual activities. Before this, Soyul announced her marriage to H.O.T member Moon Heejun and gave birth to their first child after the group began the hiatus, sharing she had left the group.
Since then, Soyul has appeared on The Return of Superman with her husband and two children.
ChoA and Way have released music content together and separately, with Way very active on YouTube and Twitch. ChoA recently got married to a non-idol in late 2021.
Leader Geummi has also gotten married and has two children, seemingly having relocated to America.
Ellin is currently active on AfreecaTV as a streamer., though she is currently on hiatus. She is active on Instagram, however, sharing updates of her day-to-day life!
Way, ChoA, Geummi, and Soyul reunited for an episode of The Return Of Superman, which you can watch below!
